Coloring Leather: Dye or Paint
Переглядів 3584 місяці тому
Coloring Leather - Dye or paint? The term "leather color" is, in my opinion, a bit confusing. It gives the impression that all colors are the same. But they are not. In fact, there are two basic methods of coloring leather. With the first method we paint, while with the second method we actually dye the leather. Sponsored by Fiebing’s, Ralf Meisel has created a series of videos to demonstrate h...

      Full strength Resolene will resist water. As you dilute it, it will not protect as well. A 20% dilution is what we typically recommend for some gloss reduction

    I didn't know to prepare leather first using this first. My Antique Finish brown dye rubbed in great. But it rubbed off some dye and smeared my project when I tried applying Finish Gloss. I should have tested it on veg tan leather scrap first. I will probably switch brands or dyes. I applied Feibing antique gel to veg tan leather and rubbed it in well and it looked pretty good after some effort. When applying gloss or sheen liquid, it diluted the dye making horrible streaks. Not a happy customer right now. This stuff washed off my disposable rubber gloves. When fully dry will this come off my belt and onto my clothing? Is the flammable liquid dye more permanent?

    • @triglideadventure5235
      @triglideadventure5235 6 місяців тому

      It does that. The trick is to buff out as much as you can after it dries, but before using your top coat. If it's too light you can repeat the antiquing, again, before your top coat.

    • @colelider5480
      @colelider5480 6 місяців тому

      @@triglideadventure5235 I've tried so many different things to make antique paste stick... but my thoughts are that it only works for tiny stamping and carved images. It won't stick to large stamping at all because the stamping itself burnished the leather and prevents the paste from adhering to the leather properly. Swivel knife carved leather allows the paste to stick because it exposes the interior flesh.
